Keep it Honest and with Integrity

I am not a religious person. I never go to church except for Christmas Eve, and that is solely for joy of singing carols. But imagine that everybody in the world honours this:

  1. I am the LORD your God who brought you out from the house of slavery. You shall have no other gods before Me...
    • He freed us, and yet we are running towards slavery so eagerly. Money is our new god, right?

  2. Do not make an image or any likeness of what is in the heavens above...
    • OK I cannot explain this...

  3. You shall not make wrongful use of the name of your God
    • Well be nice, basically, and be happy.

  4. Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy
    • Cool one. Have a part of your life when you do not make money. Modern eypression is unwinding...

  5. Honour your Father and Mother
    • Do that. They raised you.

  6. You shall not murder
    • And not only because it is illegal...

  7. You shall not commit adultery
    • Do not sleep with other's people partners.

  8. You shall not steal
    • Do not steal!!!! Do not steal ideas, do not steel goods, do not steal happiness!!!

  9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour
    • And how many times did you do it?

  10. You shall not covet your neighbour's wife
    • When was the last time your really looked at your partner?

And notice, unlike church rules, unlike common moral rules, they do not say:
  • Do not swear

  • Go to war for your government

  • Do not be a homosexual

  • Go to church

  • Do not have sex

  • Work until you die

...

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

About Life

My wife and I have always had different view of life. She is always optimistic, and basically happy with life as is, but lacks ambition. I, on the other hand, am always unhappy, thinking that "here and now" sucks, and it should be much better. I regularly strive to improve something, either life of myself or the work I do and usually succeed in it. That does make me a better person usually but definitely not the happier one.
Last week, think it was Thursday, I attended the conference and the first presentation was from Dr. V. S. He was presenting some ideas about Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery and was giving very clear overview of it. And then, talking about the how to perceive a particular situation he said: "When somebody ask me how is it going, I usually say, it is good, it is excellent but it can be better."
I am not an 18 year old person anymore, and it requires a strong argument to change my mind, let alone my attitude. It is good, he said, and we can be happy with "here and now" like my wife, like him, but that definitely does not mean that we cannot improve further, that it cannot be better.

About Stress

Stress is a peculiar animal.
A friend of mine, the Indian with impeccable English accent (and suit as well :-) told me: "Stress is when you think you would not make a task in time." I did not fully understand the scope of his words at that time, as was completely immersed in my current project, of course, stressing out.
I was thinking he was talking about the work only.
Much later I realized he was relating to the life in general. The point is not to stress about anything you cannot influence: spilled milk to paraphrase, mortgage, a scratch on your car, weather.
I would add, the other premise is: if you can do something about it do it on time.
